The success of 21C as an independent, Louisville phenomenon is hard to argue. Whether it can be duplicated in another city is about to be tested.
21C was recently named the best hotel in the U.S., and its Proof restaurant has received national acclaim, including a profile in Esquire.
The whole 21C team, including founders Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson, and chef Michael Paley, have embarked on a 21C project in downtown Cincinnati, with some help from the city's downtown development organization.
It'll have the art, it'll have the upscale restaurant, it'll have the entrees made from local produce.
The site is the former Metropole HOtel, with the restoration beginning next year. Here's a quote from Wilson.
"Proof and the 21c Museum Hotel have become essential destinations for both visitors to and residents of Louisville. People come for the food and stay for the art, or vice versa. The hotel, museum and restaurant facilitate great conversation, offer new and exciting flavors and feature unsurpassed hospitality. We are thrilled to establish this cultural destination in Cincinnati.
