British actor Edward Woodward passed away on November 16, 2009. Born Edward Albert Arthur Woodward in Croydon, England, he grew up wanting to be a journalist before attending the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He began stage acting in 1946 and worked through England and Scotland, starring in Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Cyrano de Bergerac. His first film was the 1955 adaptation of the play, Where There's a Will. His film career would later include the cult classic, “The Wicker Man” (1973), the biopic “Breaker Morant” (1980), and the buddy cop comedy “Hot Fuzz” (2007). He also worked in television in the iconic roles of spy David Callan in “Callan” (1967-72) but American audiences remember him best as former spy-turned-protector/avenger Robert McCall in “The Equalizer” (1985-89). Woodward died at the age of 79 from illness, most notably pneumonia.
