You made it. And next week is a short one, so today's the day to get something accomplished. We've got plenty of entertainment lined up here at Mojo today and in the next week. By the way, note the new "Friends of Mojo" feature in the bottom left of this column. Click there and Join my posse. Pleeeeeze.

Here's some news I've been following -- yes, we're going to miss it when Sweeps ends:

Community Upraged: This story about a "Redneck Meet and Greet" bar near Owensboro will crack you up. Mainly because of the quotes from locals, like this one: "It's pretty raunchy that goes on there." The crisis: apparently people go to this place and have sex.

Nunn Taken: Steve Nunn appeared by video in court yesterday, sporting a beard, as he was arraigned for Amanada Ross' murder. The case has prompted legislation to require real-time monitoring for perpetrators in domestic violence cases. That will come up in Frankfort in January. The prosecutor won't say whether he'll seek the death penalty for Nunn.

Harley Zooms Off: You didn't really think Kentucky had a chance to lure the Harley-Davidson plant from Pennsylvania, did you? There won't be any special session to create incentives, as Gov. Beshear admitted yesterday that a union vote in the Keystone State makes it highly unlikely the plant will move.

Here's Beshear's statement: "Until now, we had been encouraged by the possibility of Harley-Davidson coming to Kentucky. However, with the recent union vote and published reports, it appears our opportunity is significantly diminished. Nevertheless, we will continue our discussions with the company and do all that we can to bring jobs to Kentucky until a final decision is made."

Buyer Really, Really Beware: I had a student do a speech on this "Force for Earth" product that supposedly boosts mileage in your car. I was skeptical then (good speech, though), and am more skeptical now that I've seen Steve Burgin's sweeps piece on WLKY, and learned that ex-UK star Rick Robey is touting it. If that doesn't scare you, it's a multilevel marketing scheme. But you might be the one that makes some money from it.

A Scam is a Scam: Fooling people is big business in the oil and gas business, too. WHAS-TV's Adam Walser tracked down another big scam, headed by a guy named David Rose. Suckers... The feds have been chasing these guys for years for selling mythical oil wells in Kentucky.

Backing Bridges: Last night the Metro Council approved Mayor Abramson's four choices for membership on the bi-state tolling authority, even though the Council had previously passed a resolution requiring the Mayor to appoint a Council member. Tina Ward-Pugh, Rick Blackwell and, guess who(?) -- Doug Hawkins, voted against the appointments.

Judicial Follow-up: I mentioned a while back that former U of L hoopster-turned-attorney Derwin Webb was one of three candidates for a judgeship. Gov. Beshear selected Mason Trenaman to that post yesterday.

Asher on Bruce: If you're among John Asher's 1,500 Facebook friends, you appreciate the Churchill Downs' VPs' anticipatory entries prior to the Springsteen show in Nashville this week, as well as the post-concert updates. Now, John, if you really want to impress us, get the Boss to play a show at the track.

Smoke Clears: WFPL found a national study that puts us in the top five of American cities ranked by percentage of people who smoke, at 27.5. And evidence that it's dumb to smoke -- the national report shows vast differences in smoking rates based on education and poverty levels.

What's wrong with Mountain Dew? ;-)
I could use some right about now.

RE: Bi-state tolling authority - Yes, we're getting a tolling authority to pay for the outrageous $4.2 billion Ohio River Bridges Project. If you haven't yet cast a vote to oppose this monstrosity, please get involved NOW. It's not too late to save our city (our air, our toll-free roads, etc.) from this mess: www.8664.org

Best,
- C
