Stone Temple Pilots

This past Saturday night I went to the much anticipated Stone Temple Pilots show. STP is one of my all-time favorite bands, so when I heard they were touring and saw the date at Horseshoe I had to attend. A handful of friends told me early on that they were probably going, only to find out a few days before that they all backed out. Since I'd already bought my ticket, I decided to go anyway and hoped I might run into someone I knew there. (Which I did.) Since I went solo, I was able to go on my own schedule and not have to worry about "where did my ride run off to?" I was able to play ... more

New techniques

I realized recently that I'd gotten away from doing photo-assignments. Last year I was making it a point to go shoot something once every week or two in order to develope my technique. I suppose I hit a busy stretch and dropped the practice. When my friend Sam sent me a message inviting me to come to St. Agnes Church with him last Sunday afternoon, I saw it as an opportunity to get back to doing my assignments and to possibly experiment with new photoshop techniques. As I began to shoot, I noticed one thing immediately: I've learned much about light and how it interacts with my lens sin ... more

I LOVE MUD

I love mud! Clay mud that is.... I ordered and received some new glaze this week. I've never mixed my own... so I guess I will find out all about that... I've been working on what I call "quilted plates"... and basically they are put together like a quilt. check out the pic. It takes roughly 10 hours to make one plate and that doesn't include the firing (if you know anything about firing, then you know it has to be fired once to bisque the piece and get it ready for glazing... then you have to fire it again for the high temp glaze firing. Some folks even do more after that. There are lots of ... more

Potential Opportunities

This past Friday, I was able to arrange a vacation night so that I could go to the Velcro Pygmies concert at Fourth Street Live. Normally I'd dodge such at events - mainly because I've seen the Pygmies before and I'm not a fan of shows at 4SL - but since my friend Stymie arranged a VIP party with a meet and greet with band, I decided that this was something I should take advantage of. Of course, the camera came along with me. I'm glad I went for a few reasons. One was that it was a fun time. The band is a pretty cool bunch, and fun to shoot, even when they are not on stage. Of course, th ... more

Tips and tools of the trade

Two Sundays ago, some friends of mine asked me to take some family pictures for them. We decided we wanted an outdoor setting, so we agreed to go just across the river to the Falls for setting. The shoot went pretty well with only a few minor hitches. I got some decent shots, but perhaps more importantly, while contemplating what I'd done afterwards, I realized some areas for improvement. One of the first things I learned is in regards to shooting kids. As many parents know, kids are not always the most cooperative of subjects. Fortunately, my friends had already helped to relieve this b ... more

I love shooting concerts

So Friday night I went to see George Clinton and Parliment Funkadelic. It was a free show on the Waterfront. The weather could have been better, but I was glad that I went. Of course, I too my camera, which was the main reason I was upset about it raining. The good news is that, because a brief downpour, I discovered my camera bag is indeed water resistant. You can probably guess how relieved I am to find out that little tidbit of information. Before the rain hit, I had a prime spot close to the front of the stage to get some great shots. When the downpour rolled in, I freaked and left ... more

Shit.

I think I'm losing my mind. Maybe the artistic genius is actually there, and has begun to eat me alive? Probably not - I am no where good enough yet but something good has to come out of this pain. I am literally working on 15 pieces (drawings/paintings) - AT THE SAME TIME. Six of them obscenely erotic - don't even know if they will sell, they're so bad. I almost passed out drawing today because I forgot to eat. This is the least offensive one of the bunch. It's not really finished. None of them are. CWESQ's drawing is almost done. Aero's needs maybe another half hour and then I can s ... more
