who's in charge of my health

What the hell has happened? Why is my insurance company holding my prescription hostage. We have money taken out every week to cover medical insurance... over $90/wk. for a family of 3. ok. so I'm dealing with the robbery... Now I go to the pharmacy and can't get my meds because the insurance company won't approve them. They need a letter of explanation from my doc explaining why he chose to put me on this or that med that is considered too expensive, and there are other drugs. Problem is, I've tried those other drugs and they don't work for me. Now I have to wait a week or so for the additio ... more

Graceful

How graceful can a person be when they can dislocate their pinkie finger while carrying in groceries? I mean seriously, Milk in one hand bag in another trip and catch your pinkie on the freaking counter and dislocate it. lol And me I wait for 30 minutes thinking it will get better while it turns purple and swells. lol Finally I decide to drive myself to the Emergency room to get an X-ray. I was not sure if it was broken. It hurt but I didn't know how bad it was. I must have a super pain tolerance because the ladies doing the X-ray were shocked that it was dislocated because I was not in “ser ... more

Docs Visit

I spoke with length today with a another doctor who is surprisingly intillegent and human...I could say humane. We discussed many levels of pharmacuticals and body chemistry; touching on addictions and how human body responds to these things naturally. Gracing each other with an exchange of of both social and science. There was this common ground of the knowledge that history is the source to the future. This Cat, comes to my home for the doc visit. I have a few of those, umm, issuis. Dont worry, he and I both agreed that all (entire human species) is mental. How one manages this is the con ... more

Quiet Conspiracy?

There's a quiet unspoken conspiracy going on here in the USA. I would submit that the food manufacturers and medical orthodoxy, while no verbal agreements to conspire may have taken place, are the guilty parties. Its clear that while lifestyle is the total reason for the degree of illness and poor health the nation finds itself, the food we eat plays more than a 75% role. Processed, chemically enhanced, nutrient devoid foods that make up over 95% of what fills our grocery store shelves today is slow at its job, but none the less poison. We were never meant to eat dyes, food additives, prese ... more

The Darkness That Swallows Me, part 2

Symptoms that family members or care providers could see in a person with Dementia. “Personality changes, irritability or apathy. Loss of speech or change in language skills. Disorientation to time, place. Decline in self care; this is important because it reflects a persons' level of functioning and it is here that a care provider or family can observe, over time, a subtle or sudden decline. Abrupt onset of seizure activity when there had been none in the past. Incontinence, when an individual has always been independent in toileting. Short-term memory loss may depend upon the previ ... more

Twit2Fit Diary I - July 10, 2008

For those of you who are on Twitter, or for those of you who are not, I've discovered a nice way to use social networking friends to help keep me (and perhaps you or others) motivated to go to the gym, diet, exercise and keep one another healthy. I started Twit2Fit, which began as a hashtag (i.e - #twit2fit) in Twitter updates. Those who want to support others who need encouragement or support or celebration in fitness and wellness activities, or who need support themselves, could follow the hashtag via a Twitter search and watch what other people say. A month after it started, I launched T ... more

The Darkness That Swallows Me, part 1

I have NEVER been obsessed about anyone in my entire life, until now. One of the ladies I take care of has full blown Dementia. It's hard seeing someone you know slip away from reality and be gone forever. Every week she seems to be getting worse and there is nothing that can be done to stop it. I have decided that in her honor I would write some blogs detailing the signs of this horrible disease and provide information for others who may notice this happening to someone they love. I just wish there was something I could do to make her better, but there isn't. So all I can do is make each day ... more

attitudes

I am currently taking some stuff from a few of Mojos regular posters in the forums. That's okay. It's not the first time. It's what they do. Apparently I mentioned having had cancer and people interpreted that in a negative way as some sort of bid for sympathy or attention. It was neither. I mentioned it in the context of being grateful for having Mojo to keep me company while I was stuck at home recuperating after treatments. At a time when I was alone and hurting and uncertain of what was to come, Mojo was a social lifeline. You can only read and watch TV for so long. One comment made w ... more
