The price is right.
So, even though i got that fat new raise and for the first time in my life am able to pay my bills AND have money left over to buy things i want, i still like stuff that's free. I mean, I can spend that left-over money on other stuff.
My wireless card in my laptop hasn't worked right for months. I kept putting off having it fixed, mostly because I know nothing about computers and assume that anyone who does wants me to pay them hundreds and hundreds of my dollars to put that knowledge to use. So what did I do? I posted a thread on Mojo.
The tech forum is one I rarely visit - they all

BlackBerry OS 4.5 upgrade
Did you know that the Curve has a video camera built in? I found out right after I bought mine through research online. I found that RIM had already released it's OS 4.3 to mobile carriers but hadn't released it to the public. I was constantly checking ATT for the OS upgrade. The other day at work I found a Beta 4.5 and last night I downloaded it and installed it on my phone. Install was quite simple although it took about 45 minutes to complete. Keep in mind that if you do install it on your phone your doing so at your own risk. Remember this is a Beta. I ran into a few small problems after t

Voice-overs
Anyone here familiar with voice-overs and voice acting? That's what I do and I would like to find out more about the opportunities that require voice talent in the Louisville area. What I do are voices/reads for commercials, narrations (books on tape/CD or films), multimedia, video games, IVR's, etc. I have the capabilities to record from home and send the project back to a client via email/mp3 or CD. If anyone here knows someone who has sought out a voice for a project, consider me! My commercial and narration demos can be heard at voice123.com/hvyates.
Your help is greatly appreciate

Mortal Kombat vs. DCU
OK...
When i first head of thiss, I was like 'What the Hell!? Mortal Kombat vs. DC? Are the owners and creators of these to totally different universes mad?'
Then i saw the trailer. Not bad, but plenty of room for a a little bit od skeptism.
Batman, Sub-Zero, and scorpion are the only confirmed ones for the game thus far.
They said a fresh start for MK after Armageddon was realeased. Hopefully it stays fresh and don't go stale

Technology bites
Well, I read somewhere in internet researching something else that cell phone usage while in your car will require a handfree device come July 2008. So, with that being discovered I decide to go on a seek search and destroy mission to find one that is compatible with my new blackberry. So, I decide to stop a Verizon since that is where I bought the phone and signed up for a 2 year contract (the plan was too good). Well, needless to say, when you arrive in their store, you browse around thinking, awe....this shouldn't take long not that many people in here...WRONG answer Sam!
I spent 30 mi

Vista SP1
I downloaded Vista SP1 tonight and am actually very excited to see the result on my desktop. After reading the release notes it really looks like MY favorite tech company is putting the time in to its new PC\LT OS. They have opened up the DVD standards and made a lot of changes to the speed of copies and support of hardware and software standards. I will update when both of my systems are updated.

Tortuga: Two Treasures (short review)
The game was fun, i'd give it an overall of 3/5 - a bit biased because i like pirate games.
The controls when you were battling on the seas were flaky. I couldnt figure out exactly what distance or angel to position my ship so my cannons could fire.
Fighting on land was almost meaningless. The game provided you with a few combos you could earn throughout the story, but only one was helpful. The land-based fighting was mostly point and click. Pointless.
The game was too linear. Compared to any other pirate game you could play - Pirates, Pirates! Gold, New Horizens, etc.
So 3/5 - and im bein

Another first
First blog entry from the laptop.
I'm blaming Dreamin of Paris and German for my financial outlay.
I was hoping to give the old computer to my son. This has been the normal routine. Every time a new one is bought, the old one is handed down to the next generation. The issue I ran into this time is my old computer is the one connected to the internet and all the others run wireless. If I take it and move it to another room, there won't be a computer connected to the cable. I'm no expert but I'm thinking I can't just run the cable to the router. I could replace my computer with his...but I'm

Sometimes people don't know the best tools to use so they make do with what they have. As a tech guy, I run into this all of the time. A lot of people have never really used Windows Explorer (even just clicking on My Computer) to find files. I have talked to many a person who opens Word to try and find any file. It seems silly, but it is how they know to search for the file they are looking for. SO they use a wrench as a hammer and the nail goes in the wood.
The reason I mention this is that I suspect I am doing the same thing today. I have found that any time I want to listen to a song I don'
