A Little About Me...
I am Dave, a resident in the Highgate Springs/Bon Air neighborhood.
I am a 40-something white guy. I think I have enough education and knowledge to back up what I think.
Yeah, that sounds arrogant to a degree, but there is a difference between confidence and arrogance. I believe that I am confident and willing to assert myself versus believing I absolutely have all the answers.
However, I am not an idealogue. (Sounded good when Dr. Hank Savitch, U of L professor said it.) If you have an opinion and an argument, I will listen. I have a pledge, if I am wrong, I will admit it.
I am about being real and authentic. Being who you are is far easier on you in the long run than trying to be someone you are not. Thus, real mean do cry, get giddy, and get scared.
Yeah, I have a Ph.D., but that does not make me any better than you as a person. I will be the first to admit that I am a sinner saved by grace and yes, I need God in my life.
I have found that in life there are too many places where knowledge can go no further and faith must take over. Knowledge is not everything.
What I'm Looking For...
I am creating a platform for the sharing of opinions and creating real change in the Bon Air/Highgate Springs Neighborhood as long as I live here. (I am amazed how many are reading my blog.)
Bon Air/Highgate Springs was a great neighborhood between the 1950's through the 1990s and then it began to decline.
I am critical of the Highgate Springs Neighborhood Association and It has proved to be a clique (pronounced "click")of vigilantes ripping down garage sale signs from power poles because it is against city ordinances. They are not acting in the neighborhood interest.
The Highgate Springs sign at Furman and Taylorsville Rd looks nice, but is merely the territory of the clique who do not keep its little garden weeded--creating an eyesore. Furthermore it is not a meaningful change that helps the neighborhood.
I am also critical of the Bon Air Estates NA as it has seemed to be the "Debbie" neighborhood association. The "Bon Air" association was correctly formed apart from the "Bon Air Estates" association. I think that The Bon Air Estates NA will die when Debbie gets bored, but they can prove me wrong and I will love it.
Here is what I am interested in 1)keeping pressure on the city of Louisville to complete the planned improvements on Farnsley Park.
2) revitalizing the Bon Air Manor center and Bardstown Rd between Goldsmith and Bashford Manor Lane.
a) Some of the Bon Air Manor apartments need to be converted to business use, such as Dr. Offices, Legal Offices, Home Health. b) The grocery store should be taken over by the Valumarket concern who can make it a viable business with fresh meat and bakery products. I question whether the Bon Air Estates Association will amount to much. I think the Bon Air Association has more promise and has been quite on target in what it. Regardless, Brent Ackerson has to bring it all together!
